In 2025, Brazil reached a new milestone in crop protection, approving 912 pesticide registrations, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA), as adapted by AllierBrasil. The total includes 323 technical products (including non-equivalent and pre-mixes), 427 chemical formulated products, and 162 biologicals, reflecting an increasingly diversified regulatory landscape and market openness.

Compared to 2024, there was a 60% increase in equivalent technical products, a 53% rise in biologicals, and a 38% overall growth, signaling a strong shift toward more competitive, sustainable, and accessible crop protection options. Among chemical formulated products, 86.9% were generics, mostly supplied by China and India, underscoring Brazil's strategic role as a gateway for agrochemical companies seeking scale and reach in Latin America.

Despite the volume, approval times remain long: 63.4 months on average for chemical formulated products, 67.4 months for equivalent technical products (a 24% increase over the five-year average), and 14.5 months for biologicals. This disparity highlights the growing strategic value of biopesticides, further encouraged by Brazil's new Bioinputs Law, which excludes bioinputs from traditional pesticide classification and provides a tailored regulatory framework aligned with their properties.

Although more registrations don't necessarily translate into higher on-farm use, increased availability of brands and suppliers has driven competition and lowered prices, enabling more farmers to access crop protection technologies. This evolution strengthens food security and enhances the ability of Brazil's agribusiness sector to integrate into global agro-food value chains, in a context of changing regulations, climatic challenges, and shifting trade dynamics.
