China Advances 749 New Crop Protection Registrations, Raising Global Competition
China's latest registration batch introduces new active ingredients and advanced formulations that could reshape the global crop protection industry.
China has taken another major step in strengthening its crop protection industry. On July 30, the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (ICAMA) released the proposed approvals for the eighth batch of pesticide registrations of 2026, covering 749 new registrations. The package includes technical-grade active ingredients (TC and TK), novel formulations and new active ingredient combinations that could reshape global competition, expand technology options for growers and manufacturers, and influence supply chains across North America, Latin America and other agricultural markets.
The proposed approvals include 13 herbicide technical registrations, 14 insecticide and acaricide registrations, and 12 fungicide registrations, highlighting China's continued investment in higher-purity active ingredients. This trend reflects the country's strategy of increasing product quality while strengthening its position as one of the world's leading suppliers of technical materials used in crop protection products.
Among the most notable approvals is the first-ever registration of feproxydim 90% TC for overseas use only, submitted by Liaoning Cynda Agricultural Science for export to Laos. Another important development is Shandong Xinhecheng's new registration for glufosinate-P ammonium salt 90% TC, expanding the company's portfolio after its previous approval in 2024. Within the herbicide segment, saflufenacil accounted for the largest number of new technical registrations, followed by pyroxasulfone, reflecting continued demand for advanced weed management solutions.
Fungicides and Insecticides Reach New Technical Standards
Among insecticides, cyantraniliprole led the registration list with three new technical products, followed by chlorfenapyr and pyriproxyfen. Additional approvals include clothianidin, flonicamid, dinotefuran, ethiprole, etoxazole, cyenopyrafen, and a new spinetoram 82% TK registration submitted by Shandong Lukang Biopesticides.
The fungicide segment also showed significant progress. Fluopyram accounted for four new technical registrations, including a 98.5% technical material submitted by Shaanxi Taihelihua Industries, exceeding concentrations currently available on the market. Three new penflufen registrations, ranging from 97% to 98%, were also proposed, along with new registrations for metconazole, fluxapyroxad, prothioconazole, and ipconazole, the latter reaching 98% purity, above existing commercial standards.

New Formulations Signal the Next Generation of Crop Protection
Beyond technical materials, the eighth registration batch also includes 495 formulation products, several of which introduce new combinations or first-time uses. Highlights include the first metconazole + pyraclostrobin formulation for rice bakanae disease, new fluxapyroxad-based mixtures, pyroxasulfone + metribuzin for soybean production, the first cyflufenamid + difenoconazole formulation for strawberry powdery mildew, new prothioconazole combinations, ioxafenacil + glyphosate for non-crop weed control, and Bayer's first tetraniliprole seed treatment suspension targeting rice stem borers.
The registration batch also includes the first Zhongshengmycin product for apple ring spot control, illustrating China's continued expansion into specialized crop protection technologies for high-value crops.
Why It Matters Beyond China
Although these registrations are intended for the Chinese market, their impact extends worldwide. China remains one of the largest global suppliers of technical active ingredients used by crop protection manufacturers across the United States, Latin America, Europe and other agricultural regions. The introduction of higher-purity materials, new formulation technologies and expanded product portfolios is expected to intensify competition, improve manufacturing options and accelerate innovation throughout the global crop protection industry. For growers and manufacturers alike, China's regulatory pipeline continues to serve as a key indicator of where agricultural technology is headed next.
