In the third week of July 2025, retail fertilizer prices continued their upward trend, with five out of eight major products showing modest month-over-month increases, according to DTN's nationwide retailer survey.

No fertilizer saw a price shift of 5% or more, which classifies as a significant move. However, the steady uptick in pricing comes as input cost pressures and global supply chain uncertainties linger.

Current average prices per ton (July 14-18, 2025):

  • DAP: $811

  • MAP: $847

  • Potash: $481

  • 10-34-0: $672

  • UAN32: $499

Three fertilizers saw slight decreases:

  • Urea: $654

  • Anhydrous Ammonia: $769

  • UAN28: $417

When analyzed by nitrogen cost per pound:

  • Urea: $0.71/lb.N

  • Anhydrous: $0.47/lb.N

  • UAN28: $0.74/lb.N

  • UAN32: $0.78/lb.N

Year-over-year price trends show strong gains for most products:

  • UAN32: +33%

  • Urea: +29%

  • UAN28: +23%

  • Anhydrous: +11%

  • DAP and 10-34-0: +5%

  • MAP: +3%

  • Potash: -5% (only fertilizer down from last year)

Adding to future uncertainty, BHP's Jansen potash mine in Saskatchewan, Canada, will now cost between $7.0 billion and $7.4 billion-up from previous estimates of $5.7 billion. First production has been delayed to mid-2027. BHP attributes this to inflationary pressures, design changes, and productivity issues.

Meanwhile, Brazil Potash has secured $200 million in financing for its own development project, signaling intensified competition in the global potash sector.
